CHILD CARE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM Child Care Assistance is available to families who meet income guidelines and are working or working and attending school a minimum of 20 hours per week. Federal Child Care and Development Block Grant funds help low-income families pay for the child care as they work, attend school or both. CHILD CARE CENTERS EDUCATION & TRAINING The South Dakota Child Care Apprenticeship Program reduces staff turnover in child care centers and increases the supply of well-trained child care workers. The goal is to help stabilize the child care workforce and improve the quality of care children receive. CHILD CARE LICENSING INFORMATION The Division of Child Care Services is committed to improving the quality, availability and affordability of child care in South Dakota. The Division helps parents, child care providers and others promote the importance of providing safe, healthy, and caring environments for children. In turn, parents and child care providers are encouraged to recognize and advocate for quality child care. CHILD CARE MENTOR PROGRAM The Building Blocks Child Care Mentor Program is a personal mentoring program designed to help new child care providers learn the ins and outs of the child care business. Trained family child care providers serve as mentors to new family child care providers; offering them information, encouragement and resources.
