Choosing daycare for your children can be a very difficult and confusing task. Beside the normal rates and hours questions, here are some ideas and suggestions of what you may want to ask a potential daycare provider or things to look for while deciding upon the perfect setting for your child. This list is not complete in any way and is only provided as suggestions to assist your search for quality daycare. Provider Name? How many children are cared for and what ages? Caregiver experience, education & certifications (CPR, First Aid)? Are there any other people living at site? Drop-off & pick-up policies? Is it OK to visit the daycare site and when? Is it OK to call and when? How are emergencies handled? What is your sick policy? What is your vacation schedule for the year? Do you smoke? Are there pets? Is it clean and comfortable to accommodate all children? Are handwashing facilities accessible for small children? How do you handle potty-training? How much TV time is allowed each day? Toys and furniture clean and in good shape? Unsafe objects out of reach? Safety gates available and caps on outlets? Outdoor play area safe and fenced? Nap time flexibility? Consistent, predictable schedule? Nutritious meals and snacks provided and at what times? First aid kit available? Smoke detectors? Covered heaters? Good light, air/heat, ventilation? Fire safety plan and drills? Variety of age appropriate activities? Field trips? Enough car seats for all children? Individual attention for each child? Listening and interacting skills? Respectful of both children & adults? Patient?
